Aussies have appetite for mobile banking

(19 June 2007 - Australia) Consumers throughout Asia and Australia want to take advantage of mobile phones as a means of interacting with their bank. Sybase 365, a worldwide mobile messaging service provider, said research it conducted found that customers would like to see banks provide other services in Australia, particularly the ability to check balance enquiries.

Their research found that Australians were one of the more frequent checkers of account balances, with 65 percent of respondents checking their balance at least every few days.

More than 70 percent of Australians use the ATM to check their account balance, with slightly less using the internet for the same purpose.

For Business Customers, 2FA provides increased security for the substantial sums of money that are being transferred in day to day business – from funds transfers and bill payments.

Sybase 365 already sends more than one million SMS messages per month from Australia to the United States.

The Sybase platform allows messages to be sent and received between carriers all over the world, to all networks and providers involved.

For retail customers, there is the "distinct advantage to consumers of being able to check finance whilst on the move", Sybase said.
