Bank manager investigated for fraud
(23 July 2010−Australia)A North Queensland bank manager of Bendigo Bank is the target of a fraud investigation after failing to turn up for a meeting with the bank’s auditors.
Since disappearing more than a week ago the bank has lodged an official complaint against Colin John Carleton, 55, over the disappearance of more than A$3 million from the branch.
Following Mr Carleton’s disappearance an extensive search was launched, but ultimately abandoned on Friday due to no new information being uncovered.
Despite the fraud investigation Mr Carleton is still being treated as a missing person, Detective Inspector John Hartwell said.
His whereabouts is still unknown and the police, and Mr Carleton’s family are concerned about his welfare, Mr Hartwell added.
If Mr Carleton has heard anything in the media, or read anything in the media, the police are appealing for him to contact his family to ease their anguish and to hand himself in to the nearest police station, Mr Hartwell added.
