Bank of China targets Africa

(21 March 2016 – China) Bank of China has been granted a banking license from the Mauritius central bank.

The moves makes the bank the first Chinese lender to operate out of the African Island.

The Bank of China wants to provide financial services to African businesses and serve multinationals and others doing business between China and Mauritius, according to Zhang Xiaoqing, who is leading a team setting up the Mauritius unit.

Bank of Mauritius Governor Ramesh Basant Roi told reporters on Friday the bank was expected to start operations in the next few months.
