Banks donate to Red Cross Tasmanian Bushfire Appeal

(10 January 2013 – Australia) Westpac along with Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) have each contributed A$100,000 to the Australian Red Cross Tasmanian Bushfire Appeal 2013 to help those impacted by the bushfires. Westpac Tasmanian State general manager, retail and business banking, David Fagan said the bank has committed funds to assist with the recovery required to assist those who need the most immediate help.

"Our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected by the bushfires here in Tasmania. Considering the devastation," he said.

"We share the sentiment of all Australians as to the severe nature of this tragedy and extend our deepest sympathies to all those individuals who have been impacted by the devastation."

The Westpac Group will also be matching any employee donations made to bushfire-related appeals dollar-for-dollar.

CBA executive general manager, retail sales, Lyn McGrath said in addition to activating its Emergency Assistance package, the bank was supporting victims with its donation to the Appeal.

"We understand the devastating effect these fires have had on Tasmanian communities, and we need to support the bushfire victims as much as possible during this time.

"Our support provides broader community support through the Red Cross Appeal donation as well as delivering our Tasmanian customers with options to assist them during the crisis," McGrath said.
