Big 4 among world’s top 100: Forbes

(27 May 2016 – Australia) Australia’s “Big Four” banks have all been ranked among the largest 100 companies in the world according to Forbes.

Commonwealth Bank (CBA) leads a group of 35 Australian firms ranked among Forbes' annual Global 2000 list, which calculates the world's 2000 largest public companies by looking at sales, profits, assets and market value.

However, Chinese banks again dominated the top of the list, headed by Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, China Construction Bank and Agricultural Bank of China.

CBA is the top-ranked Australian company, taking the 58th position, with a market value of A$137.71 billion.

Rivals Westpac (72), ANZ (84) and National Australia Bank (88) are also in the top 100, with telco giant Telstra the next highest-ranked Australian company at No.262.

In the US, banks also saw success despite the Federal Reserve’s decision against interest rate increases. JPMorgan Chase rose into the top 5 behind the Chinese banks, while Wells Fargo made it into the top 10. Bank of America and Citigroup both climbed into the top 15.
