BlackBerrys get attached
(30 November 2009 – USA) A four month pilot in Canada will see participants using their PayPass Mobile Tag-equipped BlackBerrys to make purchases at over 8500 merchants.
The MasterCard contactless technology, installed at selected merchants, will automatically send out a conformation email detailing each transaction to the phone.
In what the partners are calling a first, the email will detail the amount of the transaction, the retailer and the date of the transaction; allowing the users to keeps an accurate record of their spending.
The mobile is fitted out with a self-adhesive device that is attached to the Blackberry and contains the same chip and antenna found in the regular PayPass cards.
Scott Lapstra, vice president, market development, MasterCard Canada, said that Consumers have embraced mobile applications and it is expected that this new trial will have a significant impact on the way goods and services are paid for at the point of sale in the future.
