BNZ appoints head of institutional banking

(12 October 2012 – New Zealand) Bank of New Zealand (BNZ) announced the appointment of Paul Blair as head of institutional banking last week. Blair had been acting in the role for the past six months since Shelley Ruha was promoted to the bank’s executive team as director of products and operations. BNZ institutional banking provides financial services to New Zealand’s largest businesses, financial institutions and government entities which typically have annual turnovers in excess of NZ$200 million (A$160 million) or complex debt or product needs.

Under Blair’s leadership, the 65-strong team will focus on agribusiness, infrastructure, Maori business and the changing needs of local and central government, particularly in Auckland and Christchurch.

"My commitment is to not only run BNZ’s market-leading institutional bank, but to make a meaningful contribution to this country’s future prosperity," Blair said.

"These are exciting and defining times for New Zealand and I’m looking forward to working with both business and government on projects of national importance.

"We’re in the enviable position of banking some of New Zealand’s most innovative and industrious clients. And where BNZ really excels is on the hard stuff – we pull together the tricky deals, we’re independent, nimble and have the ability to make quick decisions while drawing on expertise from across the Tasman."

Blair started his career as a graduate with BNZ in 1994 and since accumulated 18 years of banking in England, Australia and New Zealand.
