BOQ suffers new years hangover

BOQ suffers new years hangover

(8 January 2010 – Australia) A large percentage of the Bank of Queensland’s Eftpos terminals were out of action over the New Years long weekend after a computer glitch caused major holiday headaches. When the clock ticked over to the first of January, the bank’s machines started date stamping January 2016.

The 2016 date meant that the banks machines were not processing any debit or credit cards as the system was considering all the credit cards and Eftpos cards as expired.

The incident halted hundreds of businesses that were dependent on the BOQ Eftpos to process electronic sales.

A Bank of Queensland spokeswoman stated at that time that BOQ was aware about the problems only with the Eftpos terminals and it is still not clear how many terminals were affected by the problem.

However, she refused to make any comments on whether the business clients of the bank will be receiving any compensation for the losses due to the break down of the system.

The Bank of Queensland has over 8000 terminals all over Australia.

The spokeswoman also said that the bank has put a manual work-around in place, and is still investigating the cause.

BOQ still has not determined exactly how many of the bank’s Eftpos terminals have been affected, but it is understood to be a large percentage, the spokeswomen added.
