BTMU names new head of transaction banking sales for Asia and Oceania

(12 April 2017 – Asia) Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group’s (MUFG) banking arm, the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ (BTMU) has appointed Vivek Batra as General Manager, Regional Head of Transaction Banking Sales, Asia & Oceania, Transaction Banking Office for Asia & Oceania.

In this role, Batra will be responsible for enhancing the bank’s transaction banking business, which includes cash management and trade finance, across 13 markets within the Asia & Oceania region.

Based out of Singapore, he will report to Kazumitsu Komatsu, General Manager of the Transaction Banking Office for Asia & Oceania.

Formerly the Managing Director and Global Head of Sales of DBS Bank’s Global Transaction Services, Batra brings over 20 years of experience into the role, which will see him setting and driving the strategic direction of MUFG’s transaction banking business as well as deepening the bank’s corporate client portfolio across the region.

The bank’s CEO for Asia & Oceania Takayoshi Futae, said: “We are excited to have an experienced banker like Vivek onboard to steer our transaction banking business forward and better capture trade flows within Asia & Oceania.

In a statement, the bank said Batra’s appointment is part of its “ongoing efforts of leveraging senior and international banking talents to spur the growth of MUFG’s key businesses such as transaction banking and global corporate banking.”

Batra started his banking career in HSBC India, where he was responsible for managing and growing the bank’s portfolio of corporate banking relationships.

He joined DBS Bank in 2005 and helped set up its branch in New Delhi, as well as heading up the Singaporean bank’s institutional banking business in India two years later. In 2013, Batra was appointed Managing Director and Global Head of Sales for DBS’ Global Transaction Services (GTS) unit, where he was responsible for driving the expansion of the bank’s GTS business, comprising cash management and trade services.

Currently, Asia's top 1000 corporates across 10 countries (ex Japan) predominantly bank with international providers. Cumulatively, the top four transaction banking providers account for around 60 percent of the primary market share, according to East & Partners Asia' latest data.
