CBA appoint new chairman

CBA appoint new chairman

(13 October 2016 – Australia) The Commonwealth Bank has appointed serial board director Catherine Livingstone as its new chairman, replacing David Turner.

Catherine Livingstone has been a non-executive director of the Commonwealth Bank since March this year, and also sits on the WorleyParsons board.

The Business Council of Australia (BCA) president was chairman of Telstra from 2009 until earlier this year, a former chairman of the CSIRO, and has also sat on the boards of Macquarie Group, Goodman Fielder and Rural Press.

She was also the chief executive of Cochlear for six years during the 1990s.

Livingstone is set to retire from her BCA role next month and take up the CBA chair position on 1 January 2017.

She paid tribute to the work done by her predecessor at CBA, Mr Turner, who is retiring from the board at the end of December after a decade, and almost seven years as chairman.

"David will be stepping down from the board with a legacy of firm and decisive leadership, but always bringing a sense of compassion and humility to any discussion," Ms Livingstone said in a statement.

"His relentless focus on long-term investment in the bank has also been coupled with a passion for driving diversity and positive community impact.

"I look forward to working with the board and the very strong management team to continue this focus."
