CBA boosts services to migrants

(2 April 2007 – Australia) Commonwealth Bank has introduced a service targeting migrants to Australia. CBA International Customer Services will help new residents organise their banking arrangements before they arrive in Australia and will provide multi-lingual sales and service representatives to make opening an account an easy process.

'They can arrange for a transaction account and a debit card and they can also provide information on the bank’s wider range of products and services,' CBA operations manager Katrina Le, who speaks Vietnamese, said.

In the UK earlier this year, British banking giant Lloyds TSB revamped its Manchester branch to provide tailored services to growing immigrant communities, particularly the Polish community.

The move came after research conducted by the bank in Poland showed that more than 20 percent were worried about organising their finances in a new country whilst a further 23 percent said they were worried about the difficulties of opening a bank account.
