CBA defends regional business banking services
(24 August 2004 – Australia) Commonwealth Bank has denied union claims that it is cutting business banking services in regional Australia.
CBA said less than 100 of the 3,700 jobs tipped to be cut as a result of the Which new Bank program would come from regional areas and that these would be back office and support jobs.
The bank said it would appoint mobile business bankers to cover regional areas and provide face to face service to clients.
CBA said it had streamlined credit processes, allowing local business banking specialists to decide on credit decisions, which it said had cut loan approval times by 50 percent.
CBA has some 1000 branches across Australia.
