CBA gets new insto head in Qld

(17 April 2007 – Australia) Commonwealth Bank has recruited Leon Allen from Queensland Treasury as head of Institutional Banking in Queensland. He joins the bank next month, and will report to general manager Richard Green.

At the Treasury Allen helped lead the A$3 billion divestment of the retail arms of Energex and Ergon Energy. He also worked at Ergon where he oversaw the development of capability for the contestable energy market in Queensland.

Allen has also worked as a senior adviser in both the Office of the Premier and Minister for Trade and the Office of the Deputy Premier and Treasurer.

CBA executive general manager for Institutional Banking, Ian Saines, said Allen would bring a detailed understanding of the Queensland government combined with a very strong commercial focus.

"This senior appointment demonstrates our commitment to the region and to enhancing our level of engagement with Queensland business. Leon will bring strategic insights to what is already a strongly performing business for us," he said.
