CBA stumps up for major cricket sponsorship

(6 November 2006 – Australia) As the Ashes series looms, Commonwealth Bank has announced it will be the major sponsor of the Australian one day cricket team for the next three years. Announced just before the Australian cricket team won the Champions Trophy in India, CBA said the team would now be known as the ‘Commonwealth Bank one-day international team’.

CBA will also sponsor the international one day series – to be known as ‘The Commonwealth Bank Series’ – which begins on 12 January 2007 when Australia plays England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

No financial details were announced of the three year deal but CBA chief executive Ralph Norris said the "synergies" between the bank and Cricket Australia were "compelling".

"The Commonwealth Bank has Australia’s largest financial services footprint and relationship with over nine million Australians. Similarly, cricket engages with more than 60 percent of Australians so our ongoing commitment to Cricket Australia will bring first class cricket to our customers and all Australians," Norris said.

CBA will also be the exclusive financial services provider for Cricket Australia.
