Conroy to step down as St George chairman

(1 June 2004 – Australia) St George Bank chairman Frank Conroy has announced that he will be stepping down from the bank’s board at this year’s annual general meeting in December. Conroy told shareholders of his decision at a meeting in Melbourne, saying his professional and public life over the past 12 years meant he had spent lengthy periods away from home.

He joined the St George board in 1995 and was appointed chairman in 1996.

"My wife and I have decided that while we both continue to enjoy good health, it is time to bring this part of my life to a close and step down from all corporate and public commitments," Conroy said in a statement to the ASX.

According to the bank, a process is in place to find a successor as chairman and two new directors will be appointed to the St George board over coming months.
