COP28 Climate Talks & Global Stocktake Commence in Dubai
(29 November 2023 - UAE) The 2023 United Nations Climate Change conference COP28, held 30 November to 30 December, represents a key juncture for international leaders meeting to assess where the world stands in relation to limiting emissions.
Over 70,000 attendees are expected at the talks, including heads of state, to discuss halting global average temperature rise to well below 2°C and pursue efforts to limit the rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
The latest climate talks respond to the first "global stocktake", the most comprehensive assessment of the world’s collective progress towards the 2015 Paris Agreement goals. COP28 is expected to be a turning point, where countries not only agree ‘What’ stronger climate actions will be taken, but show ‘How’ to deliver them.
New research conducted by East & Partners and Impact & Influence reveals that despite the challenging global economic conditions, corporations in every region said they were intending to increase their Net Zero investments.
“Humanity has opened the gates of hell. Horrendous heat is having horrendous effect. Global ambition stagnated over the past year and national climate plans are strikingly misaligned with the science" warned UN Secretary General António Guterres ahead of COP28.
