Credit Suisse CTO Implements Agile Practices

(4 March 2022 – Europe) Credit Suisse's newly appointed Chief Technology Officer (CTO) on the Executive Board of the group is adopting agile working practices to develop a “robust engineering culture”.

Credit Suisse’s new CTO since 1 January 2022, Joanna Hannaford, is seeking to apply technology to identify opportunities in governance to reduce bureaucracy and to streamline decision-making and accelerate code deployment while improving the management and control of risks. By implementing agile practices the group is matching key competitor UBS move to agile working methods introduced when its CEO Ralph Hamers took charge in 2021.

Hannaford joined from Goldman Sachs, bringing deep technical expertise, creativity and strong leadership developed in a global setting over the past three decades.

"Joanne is a recognized technology professional and her joining the leadership team highlights our commitment to technology as a key factor of success. Joanne’s expertise in leading technological changes as well as implementing digital strategies will be key as Credit Suisse further focuses on technology to deliver value for its clients. I am very much looking forward to the new perspectives Joanne will bring to the Executive Board. I also would like to thank James for his services over the past years in his role as Chief Operating Officer and look forward to continue working with him” stated Credit Suisse CEO Thomas Gottstein on her appointment to the role.

“We will adjust our financial framework to support agile practices, which we will deploy across the bank” Mrs Hannaford commented.
