David Boyles quits ANZ

(Australia) - ANZ executive David Boyles, who is credited with overhauling the bank's technology division and leading it into the internet age, has announced he will leave the bank early next year. Boyles, currently ANZ's chief operations officer, was recruited from American Express in the US in 1997 originally as chief information officer.

Now ANZ's chief operations officer, Boyles will retire early next year when he turns 55.

With a remuneration package of A$1.239 million, he is believed to be the highest paid executive with a technology responsibility in the Australian banking industry.

Boyles has denied his retirement is related to a system meltdown late last year which left an estimated A$10 billion in transactions stranded for several days.
