DB appoints new chief economist

(13 April 2010 – Australia) Deutsche Bank has announced to staff the appointment of its new chief economist, Adam Boyton, as Tony Meer sets to retire and focus on his growing indoor climbing business in Sydney. Mr Boyton is returning from New York in July, where he ran the bank’s foreign exchange strategy business in New York, The Australian reported.

Prior to working for Deutsche Bank Mr Boyton worked as a senior economist in Treasury.

Mr Boyton began with the bank in 2000 and three years ago relocated to another position in New York.

Michael Ormaechea, Deutsche’s Head of Global Markets Australia and New Zealand, told The Australian, that the appointment would help boost Deutsche’s current economic research team.

The bank is pleased to welcome Mr Boyton back to Deutsche Bank Australia. His considerable experience analysing the Australian economy, combined with his recent US experience will be of great benefit to the bank’s clients, Mr Ormaechea added.

The appointment comes after Tony Meer, who has been chief economist for six years and with the bank for 16 years, retires to operate his growing indoor climbing business in Sydney.

Mr Meer’s dedication to the role has been a major contributor to the dominance of Deutsche Bank's economic and fixed income research in industry polls over the past decade, Mr Ormaechea said.
