Edgar leads ANZ Asia as Kupper goes gambling
(23 January 2006 – Asia/Australia) ANZ senior managing director Dr Bob Edgar has added the bank’s Asian business to his portfolio following Elmer Funke Kupper’s move to gaming company Tabcorp.
Kupper, who was seen by many as a potential successor to ANZ chief executive John McFarlane, has taken up the newly created position of head of Tabcorp’s Wagering, Gaming and Media divisions.
Edgar is no stranger to the Asian markets, having presided over the bank’s relationship with PT Panin Bank in Indonesia, among other key roles in Asia.
ANZ boss McFarlane said the bank had established real momentum in its businesses outside Australia.
"We have the largest Asian network of the Australian banks. Our business in Asia is growing strongly and we have recently established new partnerships in China, Cambodia, the Philippines and Vietnam, in addition to Panin Bank in Indonesia," Stewart said.
The Asia Pacific senior executive team, which will now report to Edgar, remains unchanged.
In further news, ANZ has appointed Margaret Payn as chief financial officer for the bank’s Personal division.
Payn will leave Westpac, where she is currently general manager of Group Finance, to join ANZ. She will report to group managing director Brian Hartzer. Payn replaces Shane Buggle who was appointed group general manager, Finance in August 2005.
Payn starts with ANZ on 3 April 2006.
