Finger printing phone

(5 February 2010 – Global) Sagem Wireless, French handset manufacturer, and UPEK, biometric fingerprint specialist, have partnered up and revealed plans to launch a Google Android phone than can capture fingerprints for identification authentication, aiding in the security of m-banking. The pair hope by offering an open standards-based platform for mobile identity, they will enable an ecosystem of operators, manufacturers and application developers to seamlessly utilise fingerprint identity capabilities to personalise mobile services and make mobile applications more secure, faster and easier to use.

Sagem Wireless said that biometrics is both more secure and easier to use than current username, password and account number-based systems.

Jerome Nadel, EVP, marketing and user experience, Sagem Wireless, said that both security and usability are critical to reducing perceptions of risk, improving convenience, and encouraging usage.

Biometric solutions such as fingerprint sensors simplify the process of user identification, providing faster and more secure access to personalised services and transactions, Mr Nadel added.
