Former ASX chief joins Westpac board
(22 December 2011 — Australia) From February former Australian Securities Exchange boss Robert Elstone will join the board of Westpac.
Westpac’s new chairman Lindsay Maxsted took charge last week and Elstone’s appointment is the first change to the bank’s board.
Elstone was a director of National Australia Bank (NAB) for several years before standing down mid-2006 to take the top job at ASX.
Maxted welcomed Elstone’s appointment, saying his extensive background in capital markets and proven track record in leadership roles will further strengthen the Board and complement the skills of the existing directors.
Elstone retired from the ASX in October this year.
His replacement Elmer Funke Kupper was a former banker and gaming executive.
