FSU announces NAB worker protest

(20 October 2009 – Australia) The Financial Sector Union (FSU) announced on Tuesday, that the Finance Sector Union Queensland Secretary, Michael Clifford and Queensland bank workers would stage a protest in Brisbane. The protest took place from 11.30am until 12.00pm, outside the National Bank Australia (NAB), Adelaide Street branch, Brisbane.

The FSU and bank staff recreated a bank branch on the street and the protesters demonstrated the queues experienced by NAB customers to highlight the level of understaffing across the bank.

The union conducted an audit of 111 NAB branches and there were 154 vacancies on the day and a Direct Health Solutions survey showed sick leave is up in the finance sector, the highest increase in any industry.
