Hands off our bank, Kiwis tell Aussies
(New Zealand) Having finally prised the Australian grip from Rugby’s Bledisloe Cup, New Zealanders are now telling Australia’s banks to keep their hands off the country’s National Bank.
That’s the message 61 percent of NBNZ customers have conveyed to the likes of Westpac and ANZ through a survey conducted by Business Day publication and professional services outfit Sherwin Chan & Walshe. In fact, 34 percent of this figure said they would prefer to be taken over by HSBC than have new masters from across the Tasman.
The other 27 percent of respondents said they did not want any of those banks to buy NBNZ.
Sixteen percent of National clients said they would be happy for the bank to be taken over by ANZ while 14 percent said Westpac would be fine.
