Hong Kong welcomes Android Pay

(21 October 2016 – Hong Kong) In a new blog post, Google announced that Android Pay is now supported in Hong Kong.

The technology giant’s senior director of product management Pali Bhat made the announcement, declaring “Android Pay says ‘Hei hou’ to Hong Kong.”

The mobile payment service is supported with MasterCard and Visa cards from BEA, DBS, Dah Sing Bank, Hang Seng Bank, HSBC, and Standard Chartered Bank.

Google says that Android Pay in Hong Kong is supported at over 5,000 locations where contactless payments are accepted, including 7-Eleven, Circle K, Fortress, Mannings, Maxim’s Cakes, MX, McDonald’s, Pacific Coffee, PARKnSHOP, SmarTone, Watsons and Wellcome.

Additionally, Android Pay in China supports gift cards, loyalty cards, and other various special offers, just like in other countries.

As an open platform, Android Pay is available to merchants that want to push mobile payments forward. In-store merchants can access the Android Pay Merchant Help Centre or reach out to acquirer partners such as DBS, First Data and Hang Seng to learn more about accepting contactless payments.
