HSBC aims to be where the growth is

(31 October 2012 – Asia) HSBC welcomed the release of the Australian Government’s Australia in the Asian Century White Paper. HSBC chief executive Paulo Maia said; 'Asia’s GDP by 2030 is expected to be larger than that of the Americas and Europe combined - economic growth that will bring with it immeasurable opportunities for businesses and communities in Australia."

"While Australia’s large natural resources endowment and proximity to Asia have contributed towards its 21 years of uninterrupted growth, planning for future decades of connectivity with Asia needs to happen now to ensure Australia’s prosperity continues."

"This paper is a significant step in further developing Australia’s links with Asia.

"Australian businesses, whether exporters or importers, investors or financial institutions, will have a key role in driving greater Asian collaboration through increasing Australia’s trade connections within the region and supporting further development of the region's capital markets," Maia said.

'Strengthening Asia-relevant capabilities within Australia is critical. Doing so will unlock the potential opportunities at our doorstep for our people, whether in education, careers or leisure, and will enrich our communities with a more diverse culture," Maia added.
