HSBC appoints new division head

(17 November 2009 – Australia) HSBC has announced the appointment of Tony Cripps as the new head of global banking and markets in Australia. Mr Cripps appointment comes as the group integrates the global banking and markets businesses.

The combined businesses now encompass sales and trading, balance sheet management, debt finance and advisory, institutional wealth management and HSBC’s securities services and relationship management of the bank’s global corporate and institutional clients.

Paulo Maia, chief executive officer, HSBC Australia said that the group’s global banking and markets business combines an in-depth understanding of the industries in which Australian clients operate with the international sector and product specialists, putting HSBC in its global entirety to work for each of the bank’s clients.

Mr Cripps’ extensive global experience with the HSBC group, spanning 20 years in Australia, Hong Kong and London, will enable the bank to connect relationships and products on a global scale and offer a more seamless experience for global clients, Mr Maia.

Mr Cripps previous position was as head of global markets for HSBC Bank Australia and has held numerous other roles within the organisation after beginning with the group in 1986.
