HSBC Australia appoints head of commercial banking

(13 October 2011 – Australia) At the start of the week, HSBC announced the appointment of James Hogan as Head of Commercial Banking for HSBC Bank Australia. Hogan has a background in wholesale banking, with an accomplished track record with HSBC in Asia, the Middle East, the US and in the UK.

As Head of Commercial Banking, Hogan will be responsible for driving HSBC’s commercial banking strategy in Australia to support internationally-oriented companies in all aspects of their banking and financing needs.

Hogan joins HSBC in Australia from his previous posting as CEO of HSBC in Iraq. He has more than 20 years of international banking experience working in roles within Commercial Banking, Global Transaction Banking, Global Banking and Markets, Operations and Strategy.

Hogan succeeds Noel McNamara who is now CEO of HSBC’s operations in New Zealand.
HSBC Bank Australia CEO Paulo Maia said the Bank was seeing growing demand from businesses in Australia for international and cross-border banking.

"HSBC’s strategy in Australia is focused on providing internationally-oriented customers with products and services where the HSBC Group’s financial strength, global scale and international connectivity help them build their business in Australia.

"For small to medium businesses in Australia, this means providing transactional banking and a range of international products and services including foreign exchange, trade finance and payments and cash management.

"HSBC’s business banking proposition for SMEs takes advantage of HSBC’s global scale to drive efficiencies through common propositions and systems, putting the Bank’s global presence to work for Australian businesses."

"James’s experience working across HSBC’s global network will further assist our Commercial Banking business as we continue to leverage the Group’s international network," Maia said.
