HSBC to cut jobs in Hong Kong

(Hong Kong) HSBC’s Hong Kong operation plans to shed more than 300 jobs in Hong Kong this year but create some 500 new ones in mainland China. The move could see up to two-thirds of Hong Kong staff who lose their jobs relocate to Shanghai and Guangzhou rather than being retrenched.

New jobs are to be created for the bank’s back office in mainland China while the Hong Kong operation will boost its senior sales staff.
