ING Announces New CEO Appointment

(18 June 2020 – Europe) ING has appointed  Steven van Rijswijk as the new CEO of the group effective from 1 July.

Rijwijk has worked for the multinational Dutch bank for over 25 years and has now been promoted from the position of Chief Risk Officer (CRO). The bank has been in search for another candidate to take over van Rijwijk’s prior role . During the executive search, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Tanate Phutrakul has assumed responsibility for his position on the executive board. Mr van Rijwijk’s predecessor Ralph Hamers has left the bank to become the new CEO of Swiss Bank UBS.

“After working so many years with our colleagues and customers around the world, I’m looking forward to further build on our efforts to strengthen ING and enhance our position as one of Europe’s leading digital banks” stated newly appointed ING CEO Steven van Rijswijk,.

“Steven Rijswijk has shown to have the right combination of experience, leadership skills and deep understanding of our business to lead ING into the next phase of our strategic direction” said ING Supervisory Board Chairman Hans Wijers.
