iPhone trading app opens extra exchange

(17 May 2010 – Global) Investors who are looking to trade and monitor stocks on the go can now do so via a new service offered by brokerage OCBC Securities. The brokerage has released an iPhone application that allows its customers to track stock prices and execute trades directly from their GPRS/3G-enabled mobile phones or iPhones.

iOCBC TradeMobile, a free iPhone application, offers faster connectivity and overall improved user experience compared to browser-based mobile trading services, the brokerage said in a statement.

Investors trading via the application have access not just to the Singapore Exchange, but also to 13 foreign securities exchanges, including Bursa Malaysia, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations, and the New York Stock Exchange.

Mr Hui Yew Ping, managing director of OCBC Securities that when the firm first launched the browser-based mobile trading service more than three years ago, investors could trade direct only on the Singapore Exchange, as a result usage grew steadily by about 15 percent each year.

There is definitely demand for more features and a more intuitive trading portal, Mr Ping added.

The company’s managing director also added that as global markets continue to evolve, investors are presented with different investment opportunities across countries and markets.

Since extending OCBC’s direct market-access network to 11 key exchanges in September in 2009, the monthly trade value in these key securities exchanges has risen by more than 50 percent, Mr Ping noted.

As a result, the firm feels it is timely to introduce iOCBC Trade- Mobile, as it gives investors greater control over their investments since they can now effectively capture market opportunities on the go, as long as they have their iPhones, Mr Ping added.

With the new service, investors can now monitor the markets and execute their trades whenever these markets are in session.

Users of iOCBC TradeMobile can be assured that all transactions conducted through iPhones are secure, said OCBC Securities.

The app leverages on the existing iOCBC Internet trading platforms security features, which include end-to-end encryption of any information transmitted via the portal, said the brokerage.
