Johnstone takes the helm at Axiss Australia

(12 April 2005 – Australia) Axiss Australia, the financial services division of Invest Australia, has appointed Gary Johnston as executive manager. Johnstone replaces David Kent who returned to the private sector to take up the role of executive chairman at Sydney based investment firm Everest Capital, which recently listed on the ASX.

Invest Australia CEO Garry Draffin said Johnston had senior level experience in the Treasury and brought considerable financial services expertise and strong international policy experience to the role.

Johnston has extensive international experience including spells in the UK and the US and served in London as Alternate Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

He worked in Washington as the Treasury’s senior representative to the Australian Embassy.

Draffin said Axiss had been successful in attracting and facilitating financial services entrants into the Australian market, following its merger with Invest Australia in 2003.

"Mr Johnston’s in-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and his global experience will provide Axiss with the leadership to continue its success in positioning Australia as a global financial services centre," Draffin said.
