Metro Bank expands commercial banking team with senior hire

(12 April 2017 – United Kingdom) Metro Bank has announced the appointment of Alec Viney as Commercial Banking Director.

Viney will be joining the bank’s specialist Large Commercial Banking team and will look after business customers in the south-east of England.

He will be joining from HSBC, and has over 25 years’ experience in the industry. Viney will report directly to Andy Veares, Director of Large Commercial Banking.

Commenting on his appointment Viney added: “Having learnt about the bank’s vision and commitment to customer service, I knew this was a place where I wanted to work. The business is witnessing significant and sustained growth and I’m really excited to join the team and make a real difference to the way businesses bank.”

According to the bank, the Large Commercial Banking team focuses on companies with a turnover of above £10 million and debt in excess of £3 million.

In its latest full year financial statement, the bank recorded a 66 percent year-on-year increase in lending to £5.9 billion, with loans to business customers representing 36 percent of total lending, and also reported a 56 percent year-on-year growth in deposits to £8 billion, of which 50 percent were from business customers.
