NAB casts a net for out for the ladies

(29 January 2010 – Australia) National Australia Bank is hosting a professional development and networking programmed designed to recruit more women into the business banking industry. The bank launched the program, NAB Horizons, with the aim of ‘casting a wider net’ to attract women who had not previously considered banking as a career option.

NAB’s business banking unit recruited 150 new staff members last year and is hoping to employ a further 210 this year, however the bank has said it is aiming on creating a more ‘even gender balance’ this year.

NAB Business Queensland’s, general manager, Richard Kennerley, explained that NAB Horizons is part of the bank’s commitment to achieving diversity and inclusion in the workforce.

The program is to provide an insight into the banking industry, to women who have not necessarily worked in the industry before, and provide an opportunity for them to network and learn about NAB’s career opportunities, particularly in business banking, said Mr Kennerley.

Mr Kennerly also said that he considers NAB’s customer base to be very diverse and the bank wants their employee base to match that diversity in order to provide better customer service.

Over the course of four sessions and an on-site visit, attendees will gain insight into the banking world, network with industry leaders, and have the chance to get hands-on experience working in business banking.

The program was piloted in Melbourne late last year, with the 2010 courses located in Sydney and Brisbane commencing mid February.
