NAB to help its most vulnerable customers

(22 August 2006 – Australia) National Australia Bank has announced plans to extend a helping hand to its most vulnerable customers. Starting on 25 September 2006 customers with a NAB Concession Card account will receive a range of benefits including no monthly account fees, no transaction fees and no fees for dishonoured payments.

NAB is launching the new account to assist its least well off customers who are likely to be feeling the most strain under the combined effects of higher interest rates and higher petrol prices.

"With the cost of petrol and interest rates rising, this account will provide vital relief to people who need it most." said NAB chief executive officer Australia, Ahmed Fahour.

"Feedback from the community and our own analysis showed that fees, particularly for overdrawn accounts or dishonoured transactions, have the greatest impact on concession card holders," Fahour said.

Together with the recent changes to assist people on low incomes in obtaining small loans and the new Fee Saver account for not-for-profit organisations, Fahour said NAB’s new Concession Card account was proof of NAB’s commitment to the community.

Current Concession Card Account customers will receive written information advising them of the changes.
