New chairman for ANZ

New chairman for ANZ

(14 November 2008 – Australia) ANZ has selected a replacement for long time chairman, Charles Goode, going outside the bank to select Sir Rod Eddington. Eddington will join the ANZ Board early in the second half of 2009 when he has relinquished some of his current commitments.

He will assume the role of chairman after a transition period at which time current Chairman, Goode, will retire from the Board.

Goode said that Eddington has extensive experience and success in Australia and internationally, including Asia. He said that this will be a significant asset for ANZ, which has its sights set on becoming a super regional bank.

Rod Eddington is a leading company director with international experience including 18 years in executive roles in Asia.

Eddington currently holds several board positions across Asia. He is a Director of Rio Tinto, News Corporation, China Light & Power Holdings, Allco Finance Group and
John Swire & Son Pty Limited.

He is also non-executive Chairman of JP Morgan (Australia and New Zealand).

Previously Eddington was Chief Executive Officer of British Airways plc, Ansett Australia and Cathay Pacific Airways.

Mr Goode is understood to have reluctantly decided not to seek a full term when he faces re-election at next month's annual general meeting, after a series of discussions with fellow ANZ directors, the Australian Financial Review reported.
