New global FI head for ANZ

(1 April 2009 – Australia) ANZ has made an appointment for the lead role globally for its business unit which covers Financial Institutions and the Public Sector. ANZ announced the appointment of Drew Riethmuller to the role of Global Head of Financial Institutions and Public Sector.

The role means that Riethmuller will have global oversight of the business and work closely with the Financial Institutions and Public Sector Business Heads across the region.

Global financial institutions represent a critical client group for ANZ, particularly in today’s dislocated financial markets, said ANZ Managing Director, Relationship Banking, Gary Newman.

ANZ's Financial Institutions Group provides solutions to address the capital, portfolio management, liquidity and transactional banking needs of the financial sector.

Financial Institutions is a global business with an emphasis on ANZ's core markets (Australia & New Zealand), developed markets (Europe, Americas & Japan) and certain emerging markets (Asia).

The unit encompasses Banks, Investment Banks, Credit Unions, Building Societies, Funds, Non-regulated finance companies, Insurers and Reinsurers and both Central Banks and Government Agencies.

Riethmuller has returned to Australia after a 17 year career with Citibank, most recently as European Head of Non-Financial Institutions, Conduits and Emerging Markets.

Prior to this, he worked in Sydney with Citibank and Salomon Smith Barney where he was Co-Head of Securitisation for Australia and New Zealand and Head of Product Management/Vice President Retail Funds Management.

He will be based in Sydney and report to Gary Newman, starting in his new role on 6 April.
