New head of Asian strategy for ANZ

(20 February 2009 – Asia) ANZ has appointed a new head of strategy for the Asia-Pacific region, continuing on its Asian expansion plans. ANZ announced that Nancy Wong would take up the role of general manager, Asia Pacific Strategy.

ANZ, chief executive officer, Asia Pacific, Alex Thursby said that this appointment is another step toward achieving ANZ’s stated goal for the Asia Pacific businesses to contribute 20 percent of ANZ Group earnings by 2012.

Wong will report jointly to Thursby and to managing director, Group Strategy and Marketing, Margaret Payn. Wong will commence in the role on the 2nd of March, based in Singapore.

ANZ said that Wong has significant experience developing and executing corporate strategy in Asian markets. Most recently she was Chief Operating Officer, Taiwan with Standard Chartered Bank (SCB), leading SCB’s operations and growth initiatives in Taiwan.

Previously she was Managing Director Group Corporate Development, with a specific focus on North Asian markets.

Prior to joining SCB, Wong held senior advisory roles with Goldman Sachs in Hong Kong. She also practiced as an attorney with Sullivan and Cromwell in Los Angeles and worked for the Securities and Futures Commission in Hong Kong. She holds a doctorate from Harvard Law School and Bachelor of Science from Cornell University.
