New Westpac NZ CEO

(5 December 2008 – New Zealand) Westpac has announced the appointment of current NAB executive, George Frazis to the position of CEO for Westpac New Zealand. Following an international search, George Frazis was appointed to the position of Chief Executive, following the move of the previous CEO, Brad Cooper, to Westpac’s Group Chief Transformation Officer in June 2008.

After working from 2004 to 2007 as Executive General Manager Business and Private Banking for NAB, George Frazis moved on to become NAB’s Group Executive General Manager Development and New Business.

In his role at NAB, Frazis is responsible for all strategy formulation across its businesses, including merger and acquisitions.

Westpac New Zealand Chairman, Peter Wilson, said that he was delighted to have an executive of the calibre of Frazis leading the New Zealand business.

Westpac chief executive officer, Gail Kelly said that Frazis brings to Westpac New Zealand strong strategic and operational skills built up in a diverse range of roles within the financial services sector.

Kelly added that he has a track record leading major business divisions, which will ensure Westpac New Zealand continues its recent improvement in financial performance and customer advocacy.

Bruce McLachlan who has been acting chief executive since June will resume his position of General Manager, Consumer, within the New Zealand business.

Frazis’ appointment is subject to New Zealand regulatory approval.
