One year on, ANZ appoints CIO

(20 November 2009 – Australia) Nearly one year after the chief information officer, Peter Dalton, became group general manager for innovation, ANZ has finally recruited for the CIO position. ANZ announced Anne Weatherston as its new CIO. Ms Weatherston has come to ANZ from the Bank of Ireland where she spent the past four years as group CIO.

Ms Weatherston, starting early next year, will be reporting to chief executive officer, Mike Smith and brings to the role a background in senior business and IT roles for various financial institutions.

Mr Dalton moved to his new role as group general manager for innovation last December.

Kieran Griffiths, deputy CIO and David Cartwright, operations, technology and shared services group managing director, jointly took over the CIO position while ANZ underwent the recruitment process.

Mike Smith, chief executive officer, ANZ said that he is very pleased to have someone of Ms Weatherston 's calibre and experience join ANZ.

The appointment highlights the significant attention ANZ is placing on its systems and technology, including simplifying the approach to technology architecture and delivering global IT platforms and capabilities, Mr Smith added.

It's also a reflection of the scale and pace of change Mr Dalton is leading in operations and shared services in support of ANZ’s super regional bank aspirations, Mr Smith highlighted.
