SMBC Makes New Hire as APAC Growth Plans Continue

(8 December 2023 - Singapore) Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) has named Yew Chuan Sim as head of private credit distribution in Asia Pacific for its loan capital markets department.

The move is part of SMBC’s expansion of its specialised lending origination and distribution capabilities in APAC, the Japanese bank said in a press release.

Sim will be based in Singapore and is expected to lead the bank’s distribution efforts in APAC.

He is expected to work alongside the newly established structured credit team, headed by Junwei Wu, as part of the bank's continued growth efforts in Asia Pacific to provide bespoke debt solutions to corporations, financial sponsors, and ultra-high net worth clients in APAC.

He brings over 20 years of experience in his new role. He has worked for Nomura, RBS, Merrill, and Barclays.

Most recently, Sim was head of Credit Sales, Southeast Asia, at Nomura.
