Spring comes early to ANZ National Bank as Deane retires

(16 May 2006 – New Zealand) ANZ’s New Zealand subsidiary ANZ National Bank has announced that Sir Dryden Spring will replace Dr Roderick Deane as chairman on 16 June 2006. Deane advised ANZ this week that he would be stepping down from his roles as chairman and director of ANZ National Bank.

Spring has been a director at National Bank of New Zealand since 1999 and continued in the role following the merger with ANZ in 2003.

He is also director of Fletcher Building Ltd, Sky City Entertainment Group and Port of Tauranga Ltd.

ANZ chairman Charles Goode said the outgoing Deane had made a "very substantial contribution" to ANZ over many years.

He said Spring had made an outstanding contribution to the business community in New Zealand and overseas.
