St Andrew’s head moves to UK
(14 September 2007 – Australia) St Andrew’s Australia, wealth and insurance arm of HBOS Australia, announced that chief executive, John Van Der Wielen has been promoted to director of distribution for HBOS plc’s insurance and investment division in the UK.
In this senior position, Mr Van Der Wielen has responsibility for more than 370 business development managers.
He will oversee HBOS’s pension and life insurance business, including the Clerical Medical Unit which has £39 billion (A$98 billion) in funds under management.
In the announcement, David Willis, chief executive, HBOS Australia said that the appointment acknowledged the importance of Australian operations to HBOS plc as well as the success experienced in Australia.
Mr Willis said that a search had begun, both internally and externally, for a replacement for Mr Van Der Wielen.
