St George apologises for statement errors

St George apologises for statement errors

(5 March 2010 – Australia) St George Bank has apologised to customers that were subject to a production issue, resulting in customers receiving incorrect statement information and in some cases other customers account details. The bank requested that customers destroy all statements with an end date of February 26th and advised customers that although incorrect information was on the paper statements, actual account balances, data and transactions held by the bank are correct and could be accessed online and through St George branches.

St George has said that it is currently re-issuing the correct statements with an explanatory letter and has also set up a dedicated help line for customer affected by the breach.

Greg Bartlett, chief executive officer, St George, said that the bank sincerely apologises to its customers for the error.

Mr Bartlett said that he is personally overseeing the totally unacceptable incident and St George is treating it very seriously.

The bank’s statement production company Salmat has acknowledged responsibility for the error and is currently completing a full investigation.
