St George launches SMS account service

(9 March 2004 – Australia) St George Bank has launched a new SMS account information service, allowing customers to keep tabs on the state of their finances via their mobile phones. Customers can text message the bank, requesting account information such as account balances, deposits and withdrawals.

They will also be notified via SMS of when their account balance reaches high or low limits as well as instances such as withdrawals made from the account that are greater than the set amount.

St George said the service is free for customers until the end of May but after this date alerts will cost a nominal fee of 25 cents per alert. Customers access the service via their Internet service and set up their own triggers to receive text message alerts.
