St George names new chairman and directors

(30 August 2004 – Australia) Long time board member John Thame will take over from Frank Conroy as chairman of St George Bank at the end of the year. Thame has been a member of the bank’s board since 1997 and is chairman of St George’s Audit and Compliance and Due Diligence committees and is a member of the Risk Management committee.

Richard England and Terry Davis will also join the St George board in September and December respectively. The moves bring the number of people on the St George board to nine.

England is a professional company director and chartered accountant. Davis has been chief executive and managing director of Coca-Cola Amatil since 2001.

The bank said the vacancies had come about due to former deputy chairman John Mallick retiring in 2003 and Conroy’s impending retirement next December.

"The appointment of Mr Thame to chairman is a very sensible choice given his substantial experience on the board and as former managing director of Advance Bank and wide experience in the financial services industry," outgoing chairman Frank Conroy said.

"The appointments of Mr Davis and Mr England bring additional skills to the group," he said.
