St George structures around states

(7 October 2009 – Australia) St George announced a corporate restructure which sees managing directors appointed to each state. Greg Bartlett, chief executive officer, St George, said the bank hopes the new structure will ensure all regions and states are directly represented on the banks executive team.

The move is in an effort to bring customers closer to senior management decision making.

In the first state appointment after the restructure, Martin Barrett has been announced as the new managing director for Queensland, and giving him overall responsibility for St George’s Queensland business.

Mr Barrett has spent seven years managing St George’s Corporate and Retail teams in New South Wales and Western Australia.

The bank is also planning other investments in Queensland; the plans include increasing employee numbers over the next 12 months and expanding branch numbers.

Mr Barrett said, that Queensland is a major focus for St George and there are growth opportunities available. The bank considers the state to have been very resilient in the challenging economic conditions.
