Truth about PE not reported says ING PEAL

(4 September 2007 – Australia) ING Private Equity Access Limited has talked up Australia’s private equity markets, saying the fundamentals in the Australian equity market remained sound and offered plenty of opportunities for local investors. ING PEAL managing director, Jon Schahinger, said concerns over the demise of private equity activity in the local market were totally exaggerated.

He said concerns had failed to distinguish between the mega deal end of the market and the core market of emerging unlisted Australian companies.

He said private equity was alive and well in Australia and that ING PEAL had added 40 new private equity investments to its portfolio, but most of them had not made the headlines as they did not involve iconic companies.

ING PEAL has increased the value of its private equity exposure by 150 per cent and has a portfolio of 72 investments in unlisted companies across a wide range of industries.
