Tyro taps into legion of merchants

(2 May 2007 – Australia) Start up EFTPOS payments company MoneySwitch is entering a new commercial era equipped with a new moniker. Now called Tyro, which comes from the Latin word for a young Roman Legion recruit, the company said it had successfully completed its initial technology, accreditation and compliance phase and was ramping up its efforts to supply merchants with its internet payments platform.

"We have been encouraged by the overwhelmingly positive feedback on speed, ease of use and above all the online reporting in our trial phase and allowing Tyro to softly ramp up commercial deployment of terminals," Tyro chief executive Jost Stollman said.

Tyro has signed a partner service agreement with Toyota Financial Services for the marketing and deployment of its acquiring solution and cards programs into Toyota’s network of motor dealers.

Tyro has also entered into a development and marketing agreement with Health Communication Network (HCN) regarding Medicare’s e-claiming service.

This follows the contract Tyro signed with Medicare last December to provide e-claiming technology. The company beat two incumbent banks to win the deal.

Tyro VP for Sales and Marketing, Garry Duursma likened the company to an eBay or YouTube.

"We are not interested in the status quo, we’re all about challenging the old order," he said.
