Visa and Western Union Collaboration to Transform Cross-Border Payments

(7 March 2024 – United States) Visa has announced a seven-year agreement with Western Union enabling customers to transfer funds to eligible Visa cards and bank accounts in 40 countries across five regions.

Using Visa Direct capability, the companies plan to issue Western Union/Visa Debit Cards across North America, Asia Pacific, Latin American and Europe. Western Union’s government and non-governmental organisation (NGO) customers will also be able to use prepaid cards to aid humanitarian relief.

Visa’s global scale and Western Union’s digital capabilities are revolutionising how customers send funds around the world. We are proud to offer more people fast and efficient solutions for cross-border payments” stated Visa Global Head of Commercial & Money Movement Solutions, Chris Newkirk.
